Home Improvements &
Your Property Taxes.
Michigan's Mathieu-Gast Home
Improvement Act guarantees that the cost of normal repairs and maintenance
on your home cannot be considered by an assessor in determining the true cash
value of property until the property is sold. This means your property taxes
don't rise with every home improvement.
The following home repairs and
improvements cannot be considered for assessment purposes while you own your home.
NOTE: Structural additions are
not considered to be normal repairs or maintenance
Calendar of events:
February 1 - Assessment Notices,
go out, the single most important paper you will receive about your property, take
the time to read it and if you do not understand it or have questions please do
not hesitate to call.
March - Board of Review,
usually the second - third week in March, the purpose of this meeting is to hear
Protests on Assessment for property owned in the City of Hartford. Walk-ins will
be seen at the Boards convenience. To protest the assessment on which your current
year taxes are based.
July Board of Review - for
correction of clerical errors only
December Board of Review -
for correction of clerical errors only
